The ArchiMate standard sets a common language for describing business processes, organizational structures, information flows, IT systems, and technical infrastructure.
It assists users of enterprise modeling and analytics tools such as ABACUS in describing data, designing models, and communicating their decisions.
Avolution’s ABACUS toolset complies with industry best-practice open standards. As well as ArchiMate 3.0, ABACUS also supports the latest Open Group Architecture Framework, TOGAF. It is the only tool which provides out-of-the-box support for the complete metamodels of both Open Group standards.
Avolution’s Andrew Lewthwaite said:
“Enterprise or Solution architects who choose ArchiMate as their common language for describing IT and business systems can confidently use ABACUS 4.5 Avolution’s training, professional services and partners to support their practice.”
“ArchiMate 3.0 now represents the strategic aspects of an enterprise, covering the important business and IT alignment challenges that companies face today. Common approaches such as capability maps are now supported within the language.
“New concepts have also been added to model the physical world. For example, facilities, equipment and materials. The inclusion of these concepts allows for improved modeling of the integration between IT Systems and physical entities, as is required for the Internet of Things (IoT).
“Overall, ArchiMate is now much more aligned with TOGAF and other standards. The enhanced notation and the increase in cross-layer relations and robustness of the language will certainly improve the practical usability of ArchiMate going forward.”
ABACUS also supports more than 100 other industry frameworks and notations, including DoDAF, MoDAF, FEAF, PEAF, BPMN and UML. The ABACUS toolset is designed to allow users to easily adapt or create meta-models through a straightforward ‘drag-and-drop’ interface.
