ABACUS Studio Update: Data Filtering Added to No-Code Algorithms

18 November 2019

ABACUS Studio showing Visual Algorithms Filter to Ideas with Few Votes

ABACUS puts the power of algorithms in your hands. The visual algorithm composer builds custom algorithms using drag-and-drop building blocks within the ABACUS user interface.

You and your team can perform simple calculations and attributions as well as sophisticated analysis for application scoring, cloud readiness assessments, capability maturity analysis, and more. Assembling no-code visual algorithms is now easier with the following major enhancements:

  • A new block enables filtering data with operators and specified values.
  • New options allow for algorithms to attribute and join .
  • Results are displayed for each block so users can follow and understand each step in the algorithm.
  • Algorithms can now access general properties such as “Modified” and “Modified by” fields, Name, and Description.

Start Chats from Diagrams and Visio Diagram Import

  • Links in diagrams now support URLs in the “mailto:”, “sip:” and tel:” formats. These links enable users in ABACUS Studio and ABACUS Enterprise to initiate conversation directly from a diagram.
  • ABACUS’ support of Visio diagram import has expanded to allow for direct import of .vsdx and .vdx format files.

ABACUS Enterprise Update: Share Targeted Dashboards using Saved Filters

18 November 2019

share targeted analysis via dashboard URLs

Target dashboards more precisely by providing a dashboard reporting view with a saved global filter. After applying global filters by filtering via a catalog or chart, save the dashboard view to a URL as a dynamic yet precise report. Seamlessly share the report by providing the URL directly to stakeholders or embed it in another tool, such as in a Microsoft Teams Channel.

Performance Improvements and Enhanced Collaboration

  • Improved performance when loading the ABACUS model and sorting catalogs.
  • The usernames of simultaneous collaborators are displayed in the corner of the cell that they are editing.
  • A tooltip that appears when hovering over the element’s name in a catalog displays the property name, updated value, user, and time of the last update to that element.
  • Chat icon has been updated for more intuitive use.

15 September 2019

ABACUS Enterprise Metrics KPI Portlets

Use ABACUS Enterprise to quickly compare, understand and visualize Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) by domain or architectural state.

Add your chosen KPIs in a portlet on reporting dashboards. Compare current, historical, target, and what-if states.

Highlight metrics such as total cost of ownership, complexity, reliability, and performance, as well as custom scores.

These metrics also allow you to evaluate and compare different domains within or across architectures.

Chat and Email Collaboration

Users collaborate with stakeholders by initiating a chat or email conversation directly from a dashboard. Leverage Teams, Skype for Business, or email to open a conversation with an application manager, process owner or another stakeholder

This feature is enabled by including the relevant stakeholder’s email address on the associated component or directly as a property of the relevant element.

Cross-Platform Compatibility

The following key commands have been implemented for Mac users:

  • Command+Click to bring up element menu
  • Command+F to search in the catalog
  • Command+Click to follow a link

Digital Portfolio Management Improvements

  • List drop-downs appear with a single click.
  • Digital portfolio managers with the appropriate permissions may now delete components and connections directly from catalogs in Enterprise.
  • Columns set to “Fixed” in Studio will remain frozen in Enterprise catalogs, allowing you to maintain context while horizontally scrolling through long catalogs.
  • Add/edit element dialog contains tooltips to show property descriptions.

Improvements to Pre-Set Chart Filters

  • Admin users can now save charts with pre-set element name filters.

ABACUS Studio Update: Auto-Generated Impact Analysis Diagrams for Stakeholders

20 May 2019

Screenshot of a world according to diagram constructred in ABACUS

Automatically generated “World According to” diagrams for enterprise architecture impact analysis now include the option to target specific elements, instead of generating a diagram for each component of a type. Using this option, users can focus auto-generation on the diagrams which are relevant for their stakeholders.

“World According To” diagrams in ABACUS:

  • Provide stakeholders with an understanding of impacts through current views of interdependencies.
  • Are automatically generated based on current data and customizable queries and templates.
  • Can be published to unlimited read-only users through ABACUS Enterprise.

Additional features in this update:

  • The search speed of connect dialogs in diagrams has been significantly improved, facilitating seamless data entry.
  • Upper limit for object retrieval with ServiceNow Sync removed.
  • Improved catalog coloring and property text position when viewed in a high DPI screen (200%).

ABACUS Studio Update: Reports – Parent Filter & Property Descriptions

16 February 2019

Reporting in ABACUS has been updated today with new filters and dataset selection options.

Adding to a key function of enterprise architecture and IT planning, the new features allow reports to focus on the properties for a single component type and filter datasets by their associated parent type.

Users can surface and publish key information for a single type of component in a given architecture or project with details including the property field, property type field, property description field, and standard properties field for the single component type query. They will also be able to use filters when reporting on a collection of elements to more easily generate documentation based on elements that have a specific parent, or combine these with other filters to further narrow down report dataset selections quickly.

Additional features in this update:

  • Catalog color/heat-mapping for non-list properties now shows as rounded rectangles in ABACUS Studio
  • Properties reverted to default now show details of the user who made the revision rather than the details of the user who originally created the component.
  • Visual Algorithm Composer
    • Now checks that a user has “Update” permissions before attempting to write properties to selected architecture(s) when running algorithms
    • Now allows users to save, open, and manage personal algorithms
  • Libraries referenced by scripts (DLL’s) can now exist outside the ABACUS program folder
  • Example files and the Avolution Framework library have been updated with the latest links to useful content

ABACUS Enterprise Update: Bubble charts – Now in color

17 January 2019

Bubble chart with color

Users of ABACUS will know ABACUS Enterprise for its easy-access dynamic visualizations and real-time data management.

With the latest build, one of the most popular charts, the bubble chart (or scatter chart), can now display an additional property through color.

Bubble charts could already display up to three properties visually via the xy axes and bubble size. Bubble charts are extremely useful for comparing business fit and technical fit, with users needing to choose between other key properties including TCO, criticality or recommendation shown by the size of the bubble for the third property.

Adding a further dimension using color allows users to show additional detail and provide further mission-critical insights at a glance.

Bubble charts retain the ability to display other information on hover as well, allowing for easy identification of data with labels and a sixth property displayed side by side.

Expert Tip: Try filtering by selecting a component (bubble) on the chart. This will filter select data visualizations on the same dashboard for quick insights into other properties and related components and connections. This also works for column, bar, pie, and line charts.

Additional features in this update:

  • Improvements to the wording and layout of the user auto-provision email notification
  • Enabled TLS over version 1.0 for connecting to IDPs
